About this piece
How does a modern object express national identity without appearing cliché? The Republika bowl, in its uncompromising silver or onion pattern, offers a fascinating answer. The concept, based on Maxim Velčovský's diploma thesis (Heimweh), plays with the idea of a souvenir and transforms the precise topographical borders of the Czech Republic into a pure, abstract sculptural work.
Velčovský cleverly references Alvar Aalto's legendary organic vases from the 1930s, which defined the Finnish national style. The shape of the bowl functions as a sophisticated cipher – for the uninitiated observer, it is an attractive geometric form, while for the initiated, it is a clear symbol of home. Luxurious plating in high-gloss silver or traditional blue print transforms the geography of Czechia into a futuristic mirror that captures the light and atmosphere of the entire interior.
Why will you love the Republika Silver bowl?
-
Futuristic Edge: The mirrored silver finish gives the intricate silhouette of our republic an unexpectedly modern, almost architectural dimension.
-
Sculptural Art in the Interior: The object deliberately stands at the crossroads of utility and free creation – it looks best entirely empty as a central solitaire in a space.
-
Collector's Value: You get an iconic concept from Studio Qubus in a unique design that combines patriotic symbolism with fresh visual wit.
