Nina A. Šošková – When Sculpture Meets Everyday Life

An exceptional reinforcement has arrived at our Design Shop in Malá Strana. We are delighted to introduce the work of Slovak artist and sculptor Nina A. Šošková. Her works are not just objects; they are stories about tradition, landscape, and delicate beauty that you can have right in your home.

Nina is one of the most prominent figures on the contemporary Slovak scene. Her scope is fascinating – from monumental installations in public spaces that communicate with city architecture to fragile designer jewelry that communicates with the human body. You might have heard her name in connection with last year's Designblok in Prague, an exhibition at the DOX gallery, or a nomination for the National Design Award.

A souvenir as a work of art

Nina is the founder of the unique platform Contemporary Suvenir, through which she has been fighting kitsch since 2015. Her vision is to create a "contemporary souvenir" – an object with high artistic value that refers to local context, traditions, and folk architecture, but speaks a modern language.

"My goal is to connect art and everyday life. I want to strengthen the value of local creation through accessible and quality design," says the artist about her work.

In our store, you can especially look forward to her original collection Bubbles, which is a deep personal statement and a tribute to the legendary sculptor Mária Bartuszová. These objects and jewelry carry the organic lightness and fragility typical of Nina's work.

In this collection, Nina touches upon the very essence of sculpture and builds on Bartuszová's legacy, who was globally unique in her work with tension, plaster, and organic forms resembling the birth of life, eggs, or raindrops. Bartuszová's ability to transform materials into fragile membranes and hollow shells is transformed in Nina's interpretation into solid but visually ephemeral jewelry. Through pure geometric shapes and delicate lines, Nina captures the fleetingness of the moment – much like when a bubble forms on the surface, perfect one moment and gone the next. The artist thus tries to say that beauty lies in temporality and fragility, which we should protect.

Within this collection, you will also find an absolute unique piece – sculptural vases that are produced in a strictly limited edition of only 3 pieces worldwide. We are extremely proud that Design Museum Prague is one of the few places where you can see and acquire this rare collector's item for your private collection.

That Nina is an author of European format is also confirmed by her current role. This year, she serves as VISA's ambassador for art and culture within the She Is Next program.
